intro

This project involved designing and developing a website for Steinrosa, a Norwegian company specializing in the renovation and conservation of historic wooden buildings.

The goal was to create a clear, engaging, and easy-to-use platform that reflected Steinrosa’s mission, presented its expertise, and encouraged new enquiries from clients and collaborators. The website introduces the company’s approach to preserving cultural heritage through traditional techniques such as linseed oil painting and tar treatment.

problem statement

Steinrosa needed to communicate several closely connected ideas: art, history, craftsmanship, and environmental responsibility. The challenge was to make this rich subject matter approachable without overwhelming visitors with too much text or imagery.

The website also needed to serve several audiences, including church managers, community building managers, potential business partners, and people interested in the conservation of historic woodwork. The experience therefore had to feel informative and trustworthy while remaining simple to navigate.

process overview

Home Page

I began with conversations with Steinrosa’s founders to understand their work, values, audience, and goals for the website. This discovery phase helped define three priorities: promote the business, share its specialist knowledge, and create more opportunities for collaboration.

I organized the content into clear sections, including About, Projects, and Techniques, and developed wireframes to establish a logical page structure. Prototypes were then used to test the flow and refine the navigation before development began.

The final design focused on an earthy color palette, generous spacing, and carefully selected project photography. I tested the website for usability, responsiveness, and performance across devices, then worked with Steinrosa to refine the details before launch.

research

Target Audience Analysis

I identified the main audiences as church managers, community building managers, potential partners, and individuals interested in traditional wood conservation. Their needs informed the content hierarchy, navigation, and calls to action throughout the site.

Competitor Analysis

I reviewed websites for similar renovation, conservation, and craft businesses to identify common patterns, useful conventions, and opportunities for Steinrosa to stand apart through its cultural focus and visual storytelling.

User Feedback

Usability testing with people from Steinrosa’s target audience helped confirm that the main sections were easy to find and that the project information was clear and engaging.

design

The visual direction reflects Steinrosa’s connection to nature, tradition, and craftsmanship. The palette is muted and earthy, drawing from natural pigments and wood tones. Clean modern typography keeps the experience readable, while subtle historical references support the character of the brand without making the interface feel dated.

The layout is intentionally minimal, with generous white space and a clear content hierarchy. The About, Projects, and Techniques sections are easy to reach, and high-quality project photography is used to show the company’s work without competing with the written content. Images are paired with concise descriptions that give visitors useful context.

The website is fully responsive, providing a consistent experience across desktop, tablet, and mobile screens. Key pages include the Home page, Projects gallery, About Company page, About Authors page, Techniques page, and Contact page.

key features and outcome

The website includes a dedicated project gallery with before-and-after images and detailed descriptions, a Techniques page explaining methods such as linseed oil painting and tar treatment, and an About section that introduces the founders and their backgrounds. The contact form is intentionally simple, making it easy for potential clients and collaborators to get in touch.

The result is a clear and engaging platform that communicates Steinrosa’s expertise and values while giving visitors a straightforward path from learning about the company to making contact. It presents their approach to wooden building renovation in a way that feels both professional and personal.
