Steinrosa DA

website design & development

intro

This project involved designing and developing a website for Steinrosa, a Norwegian company specializing in the renovation and conservation of historic wooden buildings.

The goal was to create a clear, visually appealing, and user-friendly platform that reflects Steinrosa’s mission, showcases their expertise, and attracts potential clients and collaborators. The website highlights their unique approach to preserving cultural heritage through traditional techniques like linseed oil painting and tar treatment.

problem statement

Steinrosa needed a website that could effectively communicate their diverse passions—art, history, craftsmanship, and environmental responsibility—while remaining simple and easy to navigate for their target audience. The challenge was to balance their rich visual content (e.g., project photos, historical details) with a clean design that avoids overwhelming visitors. Additionally, the website needed to appeal to multiple user groups, including church managers, community building managers, and potential business partners.

process overview

  1. Discovery Phase: Conducted interviews with Steinrosa’s founders to understand their mission, values, and target audience. Identified key website goals: promoting their business, sharing their expertise, and generating new opportunities.
  2. Content Strategy: Organized information into clear sections (e.g., About, Projects, Techniques) and prioritized concise, engaging copy that reflects their brand voice.
  3. Wireframing and Prototyping: Created wireframes to map out the website’s structure, ensuring a logical flow and intuitive navigation. Developed prototypes to test user experience and gather feedback.
  4. Design and Development: Designed a visually appealing interface with a focus on earthy, natural colors and minimalist aesthetics. Incorporated high-quality images of their projects to showcase their work without overwhelming the page.
  5. Testing and Launch: Tested the website for usability, responsiveness, and performance across devices. Collaborated with Steinrosa to refine details before the official launch.

Competitor Analysis: Studied websites of similar businesses to identify best practices and opportunities for differentiation.

User Feedback: Conducted usability testing with users from Steinrosa’s target audience to ensure the website was intuitive and engaging.

design

The design reflects Steinrosa’s connection to nature and tradition, using a muted, earthy color palette inspired by natural pigments and wood tones. Typography is clean and modern, with subtle nods to historical aesthetics. A minimalist layout ensures clarity and ease of navigation. Key sections (e.g., About, Projects, Techniques) are prominently featured, with ample white space to avoid clutter.

High-quality photos of Steinrosa’s projects are strategically placed to showcase their work without overwhelming the page. Images are accompanied by brief descriptions to provide context.

The website is fully responsive, ensuring a seamless experience across devices, from desktops to mobile phones.

notes

The challenge of this project was to balance Steinrosa’s rich visual content—such as project photos and historical details—with a clean, minimalist design that avoids overwhelming visitors. To achieve this, we carefully curated the imagery and used strategic white space to maintain clarity and focus. The goal was to create a website that reflects their passion for art, history, and craftsmanship while remaining user-friendly and accessible to their diverse audience, including church managers, community building managers, and potential business partners.

Key features of the website include a dedicated project gallery showcasing Steinrosa’s completed work with before-and-after photos and detailed descriptions, a techniques page explaining traditional methods like linseed oil painting and tar treatment, and an about section highlighting the founders’ backgrounds and passions. The contact form was designed to be simple and intuitive, encouraging potential clients to reach out easily. The outcome is a website that successfully communicates Steinrosa’s mission and expertise, providing a clear and engaging platform for their target audience. It has helped them attract new clients and collaborators while showcasing their unique approach to wooden building renovation.

This project reinforced the importance of balancing aesthetics with usability, especially when working with clients who have deeply personal and diverse visions. It was a rewarding experience to create a website that not only looks beautiful but also serves a meaningful purpose in preserving cultural heritage.
